My Costello roadster has always used a standard MGB pre engaged starter - it is mounted with the normal 2 bolts but a couple of spacing washers are between the starter flange and the plate that it bolts to. This means the starter is not mounted flush to the plate but is spaced slightly out from it - this will move the pinion in its position with regard to the flywheel teeth.
Anyone else met this ?
